In Chainpura village near Jodhpur, this is more than a festival of colors; it is the living soul of Marwar, where faith, valor, unity and timeless folk traditions come alive. Days before Holi, the village prepares with devotion and collective joy. Girls craft traditional Badkuliya, women sing Rajasthani Phagun folk songs and children carry wheat stalks to welcome the harvest. As dusk turns the desert sky crimson, the sacred Holika Dahan is lit amid chants and the powerful beats of dhol and chang, recalling Prahlad’s story and the eternal triumph of truth over evil. At sunrise, Chainpura transforms into a vibrant celebration of color and culture. Gulal fills the air, Marwari Holi songs echo through the streets and social barriers dissolve into shared joy. The true highlight of this rural Rajasthan Holi is its magnificent collective Gair — the legendary folk dance of Marwar. Men in white angarkhi, colorful turbans and ghungroos move in synchronized circles with sticks and swords, symbolizing courage, discipline and ancestral pride. The grand Gair procession moves toward Lal Sagar Mandor, passing Malasi Temple, turning the journey into a breathtaking cultural spectacle of dhamal songs, rhythmic drumbeats and collective energy.
